Default Sneaky, Spammy Behavior That Will Get You Banned

First of all, I'm aware that the people who SHOULD read this (spammers) never do, but I posted this for 3 reasons:

    1) Now I can say "you were warned" when I instantly ban someone. This page goes into far more detail than the Guidelines page so I want to make sure the rules are clear.

    2) Some innocent people may not understand what I consider sneaky spam behavior because it's not as blatant as the classic link drop. This page should clarify it for you.

    3) Finally, to the spammers who may read this, it's an alert to let you know that we're all aware of your sneaky tactics and they won't be tolerated.

I hope this won't make everyone paranoid, but I honestly think the rules here are straightforward and if you haven't had any problems thus far, you will be fine. I'm sorry to all the responsible members who have to be bothered with this. Thanks for understanding.

    Enjoy

Lisa has a simple policy of paying one's dues (I think). If we see it like that, then it's easy to know where you stand.

I am new here and thought I would start the right way---with the rules and then the posts in that order

    Question Signatures

How many posts does it take to get a signature?

(how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll in a tootsie pop?)

Wow! Reading that makes me worried. I am not a spammer nor do I intend to spam for any reason. However, I may have incredibly short posts at times but that doesn't mean I will be spamming in the near future. Or you can have me go on and on about a post and it may just get incredibly annoying. Because at times I can just keep talking and talking. So I hope that I don't get banned just because I am a new user. I just recently found this blog through your 2createawebsite page. I am just hoping that maybe some of the users in here might have some useful information or ideas and or tips that I could use with my site. Anyways, Just thought I would get that out there to let you know ahead of time if you come across a post from me that may be short I promise you that I am not a spammer. I can honestly say I hate the stuff it smells awful sometimes especially when you fry it up in a pan! I joke*

I am relatively new at using this forum but I now totally understand Lisa’s policy. I for one expect anyone who post in reply to another member to have some kind of comment or beneficial information and not just post “I agree” real feedback should give some opinions and reasons for your views on a subject even if you agree or disagree. As to the number of post one has too achieved in order to use a signature depends on the content and quality of the post written.

That is an excellent observation on your part, I would love it if more people saw the light. Since Lisa made her intentions public I have see the caliber of posts drop significantly as people seem to just be posting nonsense to get their post count to the point that they think they will be able to drop links.

I saw an old thread that had a new post today at: http://www.websitebabble.com/html-ph...n-program.html and when I looked at the posts in the thread I was impressed by a post made by Kr0w (it's the third from the end).

Those are posts with substance and the members are truly trying to help others. We should all think before we post and ask ourselves what "value" are we adding to our forum because after all, we are responsible for its growth and prosperity.

    Thank's baffab for your contribution

Understood. I am here for two reasons #1) to participate in the community and #2) to establish myself as a member of the web site development community.

Well I just read that Sneaky, Spammy Behavior page and it seems pretty straight forward. This is the first form I've joined, I joined so I can ask questions when I get stuck. When someone helps me out I will say something quick like thanks or thanks for the help because that's just rude not to say thank you when someone helps you. Just saying this because I new here and don't mean to do anything spammy. If I do I'd like to be told what I did because it would be unintentional. I've been visiting Lisa's blog for the last couple of years and its full of great info so I figured the form should be the same.

I certainly don't want to discourage courtesy and "thank you's" but it's usually pretty easy for us mods and the seasoned members to tell who is trying to run up their post count with nonsense posts. Typically we look at the body of posts. A thank you here and there when relevant won't typically send up red flags. Thanks for joining.
